THE GIVEAWAY HAS NOW ENDED THANK YOU xx
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Under Rainbows.
Has it really been 3 years since I started making dolls? Wow!To celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the opening of my wee etsy shop I am giving away this sweet little lady. This is my way to say thank you. Thank you to all those who have supported me and encouraged me. This year of doll making has been so important for me. It has given me grounding and consistency when times were turbulent. It has helped financially, heating the house, buying gifts for celebrations, taxing the car. It has given me friends and connections all over the world and more than anything making dolls gives me a creative outlet that is oh so much fun.
This doll is a 16 inch waldorf style doll. She is made of cotton interlock stuffed with clean carded sheep's wool. She has little brown eyes and a small pink mouth, her cheeks are blushed with a little red wax.
Her hair is of soft brown mohair yarn, knitted into a cap and stitched to her head, the hair is then brushed out (see the tutorial on the right for more details on knitting waldorf doll wigs).
She is wearing a little upcycled white wool blend t-shirt and knickers. Over this she has a sweet little red cotton dungaree dress which is elasticated at the waist so the little wooden cat buttons are just for show. To keep her warm this autumn she has a snug blue wool cardi with little wooden buttons and a matching pointed hat (the patterns for which you can find free on the left). She also has little red woolen mary-jane style booties.
She was so much fun to make and I know she will find a lovely home somewhere with one of you :-)
(please bare in mind the mohair can shed some and the clothing has wooden buttons so this doll might not be suitable for a young child)

DeleteHi Laura, I have read your blog with joy in my heart, now I have shared your Facebook picture with pride, but unfortunately I don't have a huge social network. I still need to I figure out how I can follow the blog...I am a granny who used to make a lot of Waldorf dolls many moons ago and now, thanks to your inspiration, my fingers are itching - but most likely also aching - to try to bring a doll into life again. This pretty little girl of yours looks a lot like my 8th grandchild, a chubby cheeked little girl who was born just about a week ago in Finland. Perhaps the doll would like to live in the land of Santa Claus? :-)
ReplyDeleteI would ADORE the chance to win this little beauty and call our home hers. Thank you for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI am a liker, lover, and follower of your Etsy page - I'm at Erin Darcy Design.

DeleteHello Laura,
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower and have made Waldorf dolls for all my five children except my last one. I'm homeschooling them all, but haven't found time to make one for my last daughter, now five years old. My children, the oldest is almost 16, still sleep/play with these dolls. I have had to make new hair and also new body parts several times already. I learned making dolls about 20 years ago, when I was working in a Waldorf kindergarten in Germany. Your doll is so cute and I would love to win it for my youngest daughter. I've been a follower of your blog for several months now.

ReplyDeleteHi! I can't comment on the waldorf doll giveaway, I assume because I don't follow your page with "Google friends connect"? I will be following your blog as a reader now, just apparently not connected with Google.
Also, I have liked your facebook page, favorited your etsy shop (although i only saw one doll and she was reserved?) and pinned to pinterest!
I am new to the waldorf world and in love! I'm a SAHM to a just turned 3 year old and 18 month old and am in the process of phasing out plastic/too 'busy' toys to make room (and money for!) natural waldorf inspired playthings. Thanks for your insight in the blog world!
