a sensibly dressed fairy

Last month I held a little giveaway to say  thank you for all the wonderful support and encouragement I have had in my wee doll making adventure over the past 2 years. I asked people to give me suggestions for their dream doll, Rebe and I picked out our top 10 favourite ideas and we pulled one out of a hat.
Kate's suggestions was for a fairy doll for her daughter who very often 'is' a fairy. However, Kate noticed  most fairy dolls wear tutu's or some other such inappropriate clothing, inappropriate because fairies mostly live outside and we don't live in the warmest, driest of climates. So Kate asked for a sensibly dressed fairy and here she is:
She is wearing a navy blue cotton dress with thick maroon tights. Over this she has a gorgeous pure wool, hand knitted cardi that closes with a little coconut button. She also has a matching hat and wee matching socks to keep her toasty warm.
She is 11 inches tall, made of cotton interlock stuffed with sheep's wool. She has blue eyes and a pink mouth and her cheeks are blushed with a little red wax.
Her hair is made of light brown mohair knitted into a cap which is then stitched onto her head. I brushed this out and she has a pair of tiny, tiny plaits.
Her wings are made of hand-painted felt and have elastic loops. Kate and I felt it was a good idea that she didn't have to be a fairy all the time, so they are removable.
I loved making her, and I loved all the ideas people had for the giveaway doll.
Thanks to you all for your continued support, encouragement and inspiration :-)

    1. haha I'd wear that outfit too. And why not wings? if there can be sensibly dressed fairies, why can't there be fairies who sometimes (or regularly) appear to be just "normal" moms struggling B-)
