Buddies ~ Caterpillars and Butterflies

***In September 2011 6 families got together and started Buddies Home School. Each week we meet in each other's home and follow a simple rhythm: movement and music, craft/ baking, snack time, free play and story time. Each part of the session is led by a different family. We are sharing this week's session with you here...***

Our theme for this week was caterpillars and butterflies. The Buddies were very happy to see each other
and did a good bit of cuddling (and a small bit of pushing and kicking lol) during our circle time to begin the session.

After our usual welcome song Susan led us through a really lovey song about Butterflies  She gave each child a play cloth folded into a square. She showed us how to pinch the middle of the cloth between thumb and fore finger to make a butterfly shape and we sang a lovely song with our cloth butterflies dancing along.

One of our littlest Buddies really embraced the music this week. She joined in and followed all of the actions and it brought a smile to all of our faces :-)

Flo led the craft for this week. It was very simple and very sweet.

First we stuck coloured circles into caterpillar shapes

 and gave them faces

and a real leaf to eat.
 Benny's was a pirate caterpillar.

Next we repeated the sticking of circles, but only three this time, in the center of the page and we drew around our hands on each side to make wings:

After snack and a flutter around the garden for free play Amanda read us the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Most interesting this week was the really obvious boy energy and the very different girl energy that was being played out. The boys' games were very rowdy and rough and needed a fair bit of help to referee; while the girls took themselves off quietly with baskets of play food to get dressed up for a much calmer kind of game.   We all had fun a lot of fun though :-)
