***In September 2011 6 families got together and started Buddies Home School. Each week we meet in each other's home and follow a simple rhythm: movement and music, craft/ baking, snack time, free play and story time. Each part of the session is led by a different family. We are sharing this week's session with you here...***
We were so glad to be back at Buddies this week having missed the last session due to us all being sick.
We started the session with some songs and a baking role play in which we pretended our bodies were baking ingredients and equipment. We made pretend biscuits: rolling along the floor to roll out dough, stamping our feet on the ground to cut out the shapes etc... Having worked up an appetite we started our real baking.
We made very simple scones:
300g self-raising flour
70g margarine
a pinch of salt
160g (or so) of butter milk (if you can't get butter milk you can water down plain yogurt or beat and egg and make it up to 160g with milk)
(you can add a little sugar, but we had raisins in ours so didn't bother)
Rub marg into the flour and salt, then mix in butter milk.
The children helped to mix all the ingredients in a big bowl, then everyone got a clump of dough and a little pile of raisins to decorate their own scone with.
I just had to show you Zoe's raisin supply... I know impressive isn't it!
It is probably best if someone tests the raisins first to make sure they are good.
The scones went into the oven to bake while we washed our hands and got ready for snack time.
I think snack time was the highlight of the session today because Zoe gave everyone a straw to drink their milk with....
...and H showed us all how to blow bubbles into your milk.
So much fun
After free play Susan took us all on a bear hunt...
We were going to catch a big one. It was such a beautiful day and no-one was scared!
We swished through grass,
splashed through a river,
squelched through mud,
stumbled through a forest,
shivered through a snow storm and there, behind the sofa in a cave...
A BEAR!!! quick run.....back home, under the covers :-)
It was great to be back and we're looking forward to next week already.
What a wonderful idea! The children look like they are having a ball!
ReplyDeleteI've started a link up for mums to share what they bake with their kids if you would like to join in - http://happywhimsicalhearts.blogspot.com/2012/01/happy-lil-s-are-baking-3.html
Warmly, Kelly
i linked up with you kelly, thanks for the invite x
DeleteThis is very similar to our co-op that my friend and I do 2 days a week. I love your rhythm, we've been trying to incorporate more dance into ours!
ReplyDeleteDance is a great idea! We use it as a quick fix if what we are doing doesn't go to plan due to very high spirits. Would love to hear more about your group x
