random act of kindness

Oh, this weekend has been miserable, wet and windy and cold. We had planned on swimming this weekend but Joa has been snotty and chesty so we decided against it and 2 days on being stuck indoors stretched ahead of us.
We filled it the best we could, Andy took the kids to do the weekly shop and made a stop at the toy shop where they picked up a lovely Galt edition of Ludo and Snakes and Ladders.

I love board games, I'd forgotten how much actually. I got scutched (a family word for thoroughly beaten) at both snakes and ladders and especially at Ludo. How embarrassing and I was really trying!!

We didn't know what else to do so we decided on some random acts of kindness!

We baked these really great cookies...

We call them Munch Biscuits. They are from a recipe from Playful Learning (this is a must have for any mama with pre-school kids). They are called 'aggression cookies' because you squeeze the ingredients up with your hands (or munch them as Rebe says), and they taste delicious!

Here's the recipe:

1 c brown sugar
2 c oatmeal
1 c margarine
1 c flour
1t baking soda
Put all ingredients into a large bowl and mash them up with your hands (the more you squeeze the better you feel and the better the cookies taste)
2. form into small balls and put on an ungreased baking sheet.
3. Butter the bottom of a glass or plastic cup
4. Dip the glass in granulated sugar.
5. Mash each ball flat with the glass.
6. redip the glass in sugar before each cookie
7. Bake at 320 for 8 - 10 mins

Then we made some beautiful pictures and cards...

This morning we put a few of the cookies into some bags and wrote in the cards...
'Here is a little something to brighten up this wet and blustery February day, love from Rebe, Benny and Joa x x'

We packed them in a little 'postman's bag' and went off to deliver them to a few neighbours and the local shop keeper.

It was much appreciated and it kept us busy indoors and out for 2 days! I highly recommend random acts of kindness as a boredom buster. Next time I hear Rebe say she is bored I'm going to say 'How about doing something kind?'

I'm including this picture as it made me smile during my hate-iest job, putting the washing away. I found Rebe had hung up her doll's teenie, tiny dress in her wardrobe.

I also found a little time to snuggle up with a good boob erm I mean book.
Hope you had a lovely weekend
hugs Laura

  1. What a fantastic idea to brighten a rainy grey day, I bet your neighbours felt so blessed.

I love the last photo, breastfeeding and reading, I wonder how much of the last six and a half years I have spent doing just that!

Hope the weather brightens for us all very soon...

  3. Lovely post - how pleased your neebs must have been. I love, LOVE that last picture - it's just a bit big to hold comfortably, but it is a very good book all the same. I miss those snuggly times - i don't read half as much now. xx

  4. I love this post. I've had a crappy week and it's so nice to see something so sweet. I will have to do that with my little ones this week - with Valentine's day so soon, it's a perfect time for a bit of kindness.

I feel like I have spend much of the last couple of weeks nursing and reading - I have a great Philippa Gregory on the go and nursing is the best time to get some reading in. I just wish the book wasn't so heavy, my wrist gets really tired!

  5. pippasmum, I hope you have a better week this week :-)
It is a bigish book to hold whilst reading, but I want to get it finished, I'm on the last chapter and it would be good not not be reading 7 books at the same time lol!
I'd love to hear back from you if you 'commit' any random acts of kindness :-)

  6. What a lovely post. And like the others I always find that I get more reading done when I can combine books and boobie time. Although my current read (politics of breastfeeding again!) is far more manageable alongside either nursing little person - just not when they both ask at the same time!
    Blessings to you all.
