homemade chocolate ice cream

We had our own homemade ice cream for pudding tonight. We started making it yesterday, but obviously as it had to be frozen we didn't get to eat any until tonight. We got the recipe from this book handed down to us from my mum. First you melt a small tin of condensed milk and 100g of plain chocolate in a bain marie (bowl over simmering water). Leave this on the heat for about 10 mins. Take off the heat and add 4 tablespoons of water and 1/2 a teaspoon of vanilla essence. Put this into the fridge and allow to completely cool. Lightly whisk 300ml of double cream in a bowl, add chocolate mixture to this. Put this in a polythene container and put in freezer until the mixture is beginning to freeze around the edges. Transfer to a chilled container and whisk until smooth before returning it to polythene container. Put in freezer with lid and allow to freeze completely. We served ours with sprinkles and gobbled it up and felt very proud of ourselves. Rebe thinks we need to try strawberry next. Here are the trousers that I have finished for Benny, they are a bit baggy around the tummy and need a bit of re-adjusting, but I'm happy with them over all, and the wool knitted up better than I thought it would. I have heard of this but never seen it before but today. Just before dinner Benny and Rebe were in the living room and it went very quiet. Andy went to get them for dinner and then called me through to look at Benny who had fallen asleep standing up! He had been down the beach with his daddy in the morning and then was so excited when Rebe and I got back form school that he refused to go for his nap and this was the result. Bless him! Note to self, must get that boy's hair cut!

  1. Oh! so cute! I have not yet experienced such a thing as a baby asleep standing up, but I have had one fall asleep in his supper! Nice pants too, they look great.
